4 Simple Ways to Find More and Better Porn With AskJolene

AskJolene is built by nerds — nerds who love porn, who love surfing for porn, and most importantly, nerds who know how to make a great porn search engine. It’s only obvious, then, that they jammed all kinds of useful little tweaks and hacks in the search engine. Today we’d like to share a few of these power user tricks with you.

1. Use the – to exclude words

Exclude the stuff you don't want to see

Exclude the stuff you don't want to see

Searching for amateur -milf will return all results for amateur, and exclude all results that are known to have milfs in them. Searching for +amateur -milf will yield the same results, but the + is not necessary since it’s the default behavior.

You can exclude as many words as you like, and combine this with any other tip in this article!

2. Use quotes for an exact search

Ask for more specific results by adding quotes

Ask for more specific results by adding quotes

Use quotes if you want to find something specific. Searching for “big tits” will give you better results than searching for big tits, because the latter will return every result containing big and tits. That might be close enough in some cases, but if you want to be sure to exclude big girls with small tits, use quotes!

Bonus tip: you can also use quotes on single words. A search for “teens” will return all results we know to have teens in them, while a search for teens will return all results we think have teens in them.

3. Advanced settings for the movies

Use the advanced settings to narrow your search

Use the advanced settings to narrow your search

Sometimes you’re in a hurry, and other times you really want to properly sit down and watch a movie. You can tell our search engine to only return movies of a minimum length. Set it to “at least 10 minutes”, and you’ll have at least 10 minutes worth of steaming hot porn!

Been out of the loop for a month, and want to see what’s been added to the database since? Or just get the results added since yesterday? Use the “Published within…” dropdown to limit the age of your results.

And finally, the deep search. This will return more, but less focused results. Read more about the deep search in this blog post.

4. Advanced settings for the galleries

Find exactly what you want with these powerful search tools

Find exactly what you want with these powerful search tools

If you’re tired of seeing galleries with small pictures, galleries with only a few pictures or with just one single movie clip, then the advanced settings for the galleries will come as a blessing to you. You can ask Jolene to only show extra large pictures (to put that 24″ wide screen monitor to good use) or medium sized pictures (handy for watching porn on your small netbook). You can also tell Jolene to only find galleries that have at least 20 images, so you won’t be wasting time on small galleries!

If you’re looking for movie galleries (either exclusively, or along with picture galleries), you can tell Jolene to only return movie galleries that have at least a certain amount of movies in them. A great way to find multiple scenes!

As with the movie search, you can tell Jolene to only consider results added to the database in the past day, week, month or year. The powerful deep search is available to you as well, returning slightly less focused (but more) results.

Combine everything and discover new porn!

So, whether you want to find super high resolution pictures of Sasha Grey or movies of at least 20 minutes of with chicks with big tits, the advanced options are your friend!

A Few Tips to Improve Your AskJolene Experience

Unless this is the first time you visited AskJolene.com in almost half a year, you have probably noted the small changes we implemented in our site. In the past few months we have been tweaking and tuning the website, working feverishly on the code, and pulling long and intense midnight sessions of testing, trying to iron out the kinks and improving how the site performs. We figured it would be a good time to let you in on some usability secrets.

Change the look and feel of AskJolene with the flick of a switch

First off I would like to explain about a few small buttons that we put on each result page. I’m sure you’ve seen them before, but you might have been too focussed on search results to take the time to explore them. Well, here’s the lowdown on what they do.

The first button changes how your results are shown. By default, we list them in a thumbnail grid, trying to occupy as much screen real estate with porn as possible. But, if you’re one of our loyal old time visitors, or if you like to see some extra information with your thumbnails, there’s always the old school list view. Give ‘em both a try and see how you like your free porn best!

Same results, different themes. All that with just two buttons!

Same results, different themes. All that with just two buttons!

The button next to that will either be a little icon of the sun or the moon. This lets you switch between our dark and bright colored themes. If the dark theme is too dark, switch to the beaming bright sunny theme. If that lights up your room too much, making you squint to see any porn at all, just switch back to the comfortable twilight of the dark theme.

And for the old in-crowd, the AskJolene.com die-hard, try the bright theme with the list view for an authentic, old school porn surfing experience!

A Guide to the AskJolene Blog System

An AskJolene blog is a personalized corner on my website, where you may publish the galleries you like for all the world to see. Best of all: it is totally free and anonymous, and you can get started right now.

What you will get:

  • A personal website on my server where you can publish your bookmarks, along with your thoughts.
  • Schemable looks: colors, a picture and plenty of soapbox to stand on.
  • User Statistics: how many saw your blog and when, and what they thought of it
  • An integrated voting system
  • Daily user feedback in user comments
  • A link on my Blog Central.

In this document I will tell you all there is to know.

Getting Started

To start blogging, you must have an AskJolene bookmark account. If you have one, read on. If you don’t have one, get one now. It is free, anonymous and quite convenient in its own right.

Once you have an account, you can start publishing bookmarks. Just select the bookmarks you want to publish, and click on the “Publish” button at the bottom of your bookmarks screen.

There is one last thing you must do before people can see your blog: get dressed up. Go to your settings and personalize away: change colors and pictures, type some text to introduce yourself.

A closer look at the settings:

  • Title – This is the title that is shown in your blog and on Blog Central.
  • Subject category – An appropriate category makes it easier for likeminded users to find you. It determines where your blog is shown on Blog Central.
  • Autopublish – If you check this option, all galleries that you add to your bookmarks are automatically published on your blog. For experienced users only.
  • Mail usercomments – If you check this option, comments that users post to your blog will be forwarded to your e-mail address.
  • Registered feedback – If you check this option, no anonymous comments are allowed.
  • Picture – Show yourself (or your dog for that matter) to the world. You may upload a picture (jpg or gif) that will be shown in your blog and on Blog Central. It may not be bigger than 100K and it is scaled automatically.
  • Color scheme – Choose a scheme that fits your blog.
  • Personal welcome text – Is shown to the left of your blog.
  • Publish blog – To publish your blog, enter your e-mail address and watch your mailbox. You will receive a mail with an activation link. Note that by doing so, you agree to be bound by my terms and conditions.

Try playing with the settings before you publish. As the blog owner, you always have access to your blog, public or not. Once you’re satisfied with the looks, go public by using the activation link that I sent you. Don’t be afraid: you can always go back and unpublish everything.

Publishing

To publish bookmarks, just select them in your bookmarks interface and click the “Publish” button at the bottom of the page. Bookmarks that are broken (marked by a red or a green border) cannot be published, out of safety concerns. If a bookmark is published, it gets a yellow border and its date is shown in bold.

Bookmarks will be shown on a day to day basis. All bookmarks that have been published on the same day will stick together in your blog. Remember that AskJolene is based in Europe, so your blog will follow Central European Time.

As the blog owner, you may add text to your blog, which will be shown above the daily update. Just go to your blog and click the “INSERT COMMENT” link.

Feedback

I have done my best to provide you with plenty of user feedback. There are user statistics, update comments and an integrated voting system.

Every blog has a page with user statistics, which is linked at the top lefthand corner, just above the picture. The statistics show unique visitors, not pageviews.

Users are encouraged to post comments to your blog updates. The three last comments are shown below your update. To view them all, click on the “All comments” link. This will take you to a page where you can moderate the comments.

Rating

Every blog gets a rating, ranging from five stars (excellent) to none (bad). This rating is displayed next to a blog, and on Blog Central. The rating makes it easier to separate the chaff from the wheat.

A blog’s rating is determined in part by things I can measure, like the blog’s update frequency, and in part by the votes it gets. So, votes are important for the rating, but the rating is not a direct reflection of (say) the average vote.

Tips for making a great blog

I am not going to tell you how to run your blog, but there are some tips that you may find helpful. To secure a high rating, it is important to have a blog that is distinctive, attractive and regularly updated. Here are some tips.

  • Choose a fitting category and stick to it. I know that you don’t have a one-track mind. Your voracious appetite covers a broad range of adult interests and you’d like to share those with the world. While that is admirable, it also makes it hard for your visitors to know what they are getting. Wouldn’t you rather shop for a hammer at a hardware store than at a flea market?
  • Write a welcome text and choose a pic. Take some time to introduce your interests and motives. It will give your visitors a sense of who you are. An attractive picture will easily attract more visitors, since it is shown on Blog Central every time you update.
  • Don’t publish too many galleries at once. You are a cherry picker, not a spammer. Too many galleries in a single update gives the impression that you are not discriminating enough. Remember, if users want plenty of choice, they will probably use the search engine.
  • Update regularly. It is not necessary to update frequently, as long as you do it regularly. It is better to update once a month on a regular basis than to update every day for a week in a row and then go autistic for a month. Set yourself a realistic, relaxed schedule. You don’t want to get into deadline panic over porn, do you? Finally, tell your visitors how often you intend to update. That way, they won’t be disappointed when they show up too early.
  • Always post a comment along with your updates. It will give your visitors a sense that someone is home. Moreover, it’s a great way for them to get to know you.
  • Needless to say: only share the good stuff. All porn is not created equal. Though my search engine does a pretty good job at finding great porn, its brains are made of dry bits and bytes, while yours are made of warm, wet, throbbing flesh and blood. That puts you at an advantage. Use it.

Now go and get them, cowboy.

A Guide to the AskJolene Bookmarks System

Bookmarks is a simple but powerful system to keep track of your favourite galleries. The bookmarks are stored on my server, so it’s easy to keep them private even if you are sharing your computer with other people.

Bookmarks comes with integrated blogging facilities that make it easy to share your bookmarks with likeminded people. With a few mouse clicks you have your own private corner on my website, with user statistics, forum and your own soapbox. Give it a spin.

Getting started

To use the bookmark system, you must have an account. Note that this account is different from the AskJolene forums. Signing up is quick, easy and completely anonymous.

You will be asked for your username and password when you access your bookmarks. If you have been inactive for more than two hours, the system automatically signs you out.

Adding bookmarks

You probably noticed the “remember this result” link next to each result in my search engine. If you click on such a link, the result will be added to your bookmarks. It is automatically filed to a folder that is named after your current search query.

If you add a gallery that is already in your bookmarks, I will move the old bookmark to the expected folder. However, it will keep its original date.

You can store up to 10,000 bookmarks. If your folder is full, you will have to delete an old bookmark before you can add a new one.

Browsing bookmarks

When you go to the bookmark page, you will see a list of the folders that contain your bookmarks. For quick reference, each folder is followed by its five most recent additions. Clicking on a folder icon will show all bookmarks in that folder.

By default, the folder list is sorted by modification time: the folder with the most recent addition is on top. You can sort the list alphabetically by clicking on the “folder” caption.

Color coding

Some thumbs may have a colored border. A yellow border means that the gallery was published on your blog. (See blog.) A red border indicates that the gallery is no longer in my search engine and is considered “broken”. (See “broken bookmarks”.) A green border indicates that the gallery is considered broken, but was confirmed by you as still useful.

Searching bookmarks

A special search box in the top right-hand corner lets you search in your bookmarks. Note that it only looks for the exact phrase in the title of your bookmarks.

Clicking a “search for more…” link will do the corresponding query on the search engine, returning fresh results.

Managing bookmarks

At the bottom of your bookmarks page is a small control panel that lets you perform actions on selections of bookmarks. You can use the “select / deselect all bookmarks on this page” link for quick selection.

Deleting bookmarks

The delete button will cause the selected bookmarks to be deleted. If a folder becomes empty because of a delete action, it will be removed automatically.

Moving bookmarks

You can move selected bookmarks to other folders by choosing a target folder with the pull-down menu and clicking the move button.

To create a new folder, select “new folder” from the pull down menu. This will take you a page that prompts you for a foldername. It will also show you the bookmarks you are planning to move, and allow you to deselect bookmarks for moving. When you are satisfied click the “create and move” button.

If a folder becomes empty because of a move action, it will be removed automatically.

After moving, bookmarks are shown as the most recent additions to a folder. This means that if you move an old bookmark, it will show up first in the target folder. This makes it easy to keep track of recent modifications. To restore the original historical order (reflected by the thumbnail dates) click on the “restore date order” link at the top of the page. This will cause your oldest bookmark to show up last in the target folder. Please note that this action cannot be reverted.

Broken bookmarks

My system keeps track of which bookmarked galleries are still available in my search engine. If a bookmark is no longer in my search engine, it is considered “broken” and it gets a red border.

A broken bookmark usually indicates that there is something wrong with the gallery: either it has gone stale, or it got blacklisted. Because such galleries are not deemed “safe” for my users, they cannot be published. (Those that are already published are unpublished.)

It is up to you if you want to keep broken galleries in your private bookmarks. At the bottom of the screen is a separate folder that lists all broken bookmarks. Clicking this folder will take you to a page where you can verify your broken bookmarks manually. Bookmarks that you manually confirm as being broken are deleted. Bookmarks that you manually confirm as being “fine with me” are kept, with a green border. However they cannot be published.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bookmarks keeps asking me to log in, even when I use the correct username and password.
Make sure that your browser accepts cookies for askjolene.com. Furthermore, make sure your system’s clock is showing the right time.

Can I store and publish galleries that are not in your search engine?
No. For my users’ safety, I cannot allow you to publish galleries that aren’t (yet) in my search engine.

What does this “restore date order” link do?
Every bookmark gets a date, which indicates when you bookmarked it. This date is shown below the thumbnail. Usually your bookmarks are sorted with respect to this date. However, when you move a bookmark to another folder, it will show up first in this folder, regardless of its date. This is done so that you can easily track your changes. By clicking on “restore date order”, you will restore the original date order.

How long will you keep my bookmarks on your server?
I will remove your account if your bookmark folder stays empty for more than a week, or if you don’t access your bookmarks for more than 6 months. You are free to create a new account whenever you want.

Deep Search: Same Query, More Results

Last week we made some important changes to the search engine. You may have noticed that the relevance of the results has received a significant boost, and I am very pleased with this. Now it is easier than ever to quickly find galleries that match your query.

You may also have noticed that the search engine returns less results than before. This is a direct consequence of weeding out the lesser results. Some people have pointed out to me that they preferred the old, less focused way of searching.

As of today there is a “Deep Search” checkbox in the advanced settings. By checking this box, the relevance threshold for the results will be lowered, giving you more results in response to your query. If you like to dive for treasures that are buried deep in my database, this option is for you. If you’re in for a quick swim, go with the default settings.

Of course the extra results may or may not be relevant, but that is the consequence of “going deep”. You decide, we provide.

If you have any comments or questions, please let me know.
